Hey guys I know this seems like some sort of mid life crisis thing to worry about; I came across a great blog about styling a shelf and suddenly looked at my lonely sorry shelf in my lounge and was horrified! How could I live like this!
So, I set about buying some bits and bobs and 'styling'.
I must say Mizzi is the queen of this sort of thing so hopefully she will share some of her creations with you all. But, as my first attempt I really enjoyed this process and below are the official before and after shots. I have to add a caveat that I live in a rented furnished flat so have not been able to alter wall colours, the whole flat is 90's style browns so I have worked within that pallet. Excuses over.....the process
1. 'Kon Marie' your items, i.e. keep what gives you joy, plus I also had to keep some items that are important to my boyfriend
2. Decide on a colour theme, in relation to key items
3. Have some larger items at the back, you can add height by putting items on little stands if needed, arrange items in odd numbers 3 items in a group generally looks better than 2
4. Shop or re purpose items - I love the shop Tiger for cheap candles, frames and ornaments (my imagination goes wild in there), I re-purposed some items like feathers from my old dancing dress, and a mustard pot, and found some dried flowers in a bin down the road...the other half was horrified when i dived in to retrieve them. I printed a favourite photos and copied the look of the print on the wall to put in an old frame.
5. Final step is to arrange, move, and arrange again.... It is great fun!
What do you think? Be gentle,, this is my first attempt .
Fantastic!
